John Tolchinsky and Lawrence Bennett opened the John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills in June of 1983. At that time, they had over 40 years of funeral experience between them. As first generation funeral directors, the funeral business was a calling to each of them.

John (“Jack”) had grown up in Attleboro, Massachusetts and had served in the funeral business in several funeral homes in the Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts area. He moved to the Cape in 1972.

Lawrence (“Larry”) is a native Cape Codder who grew up in Hyannis, graduated from Barnstable High School in 1970 and returned to the Cape to work after graduating from mortuary school.

Jack and Larry had both envisioned a funeral home where service and affordable cost would be combined with an outstanding facility. Together they realized that dream and worked together until Jack’s death on December 3, 1991. Since that date, Larry has been operating the funeral home under the same visions.

Building

The funeral home is situated at 3778 Falmouth Road, (Route 28), Marstons Mills, Massachusetts. The building was originally an elementary school serving Marstons Mills and was moved to this site in 1959 after a new elementary school had been built on Main Street. From 1959 through 1983 it became the home of several small shops.

In 1983 it was completely renovated inside and is extremely spacious with two beautifully appointed chapels.
